harvest (crockpot) applesauce

We literally ate the entire batch of crockpot applesauce I made yesterday at one meal. It’s THAT GOOD. We had a couple extra kids here for a sleepover but still, that’s saying something….It’s dead easy, and a great way to use up all of those fall apples!


14 c cut apples (about 14-17 medium to large apples should do it)

1.5 tsp pumpkin pie spice (click here for my easy recipe for this spice blend)

1/4 c real maple syrup (optional)

1/2 tsp real vanilla extract

To prepare:

Peel, core, and cut into chunks then toss into your crockpot (aim for about 14 cups of cut apples). Add pumpkin pie spice and maple syrup (it’s optional, depending on the sweetness of the apples you are using, but it does give it a lovely dessert-like flavour). Cook on high for 4 to 4.5 hours until apples very soft, then add vanilla and mash with a potato masher or fork. Makes about 6 cups. As a bonus, your house will smell like a dream while it’s cooking!
